ONDA ODS — FROM LOCAL MEDIA TO GLOCAL MEDIA — EDITION III (2024–2025)

The third edition of the ONDA ODS project seeks to promote multi-actor and multi-level synergies to support the Spanish Sustainable Development Strategy at the national level through innovative proposals. It is built around three pillars:

The implementation of the first national radio contest on the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda among 16 educational centers in Spain

“Onda ODS – The Future is Yours” is a nationwide inter-school contest aimed at secondary school students (ESO), conceived as an innovative initiative to promote knowledge and action around the Sustainable Development Goals. Over the course of 4 months, 16 teams of 4 students from 16 different schools will participate in around fifteen radio programs, in which they will have to complete challenges, take tests, and answer questions related to the key pillars of the Spanish Sustainable Development Strategy (EEDS) and the 2030 Agenda.

The development of a national multilingual communication strategy around the SDGs and the Country Challenges of the EEDS

This national campaign, disseminated through 240 local media outlets, aims to raise awareness among 2.51 million people in 11 regions by highlighting public policies, citizen initiatives, and private actions promoted at the local and rural level to advance the implementation of the Spanish Sustainable Development Strategy (EEDS).

It will include more than 120 news programs in 4 languages, 4 radio magazine shows produced simultaneously from the studios of the 4 partner organizations and in 3 languages (Catalan, Galician, and Spanish), and 40 audiovisual pieces specifically created for dissemination on social media (Reels, Shorts, and TikTok videos) to encourage greater youth participation in the project.

The implementation of 16 public radio discussions on the 2030 Agenda

Throughout 2025, 16 two-hour radio discussions will be held in municipalities, mainly in rural areas with high social vulnerability. Targeted at communicators, representatives of local associations, and citizens, these events aim to explore the 2030 Agenda from a close and territorial perspective.

In each municipality, a core group will lead a participatory process to identify the most relevant topic based on the local context and the priorities of the Spanish Sustainable Development Strategy (EEDS). The discussions, organized in a roundtable format and featuring expert participants, will be broadcast to an estimated audience of 2.51 million listeners through four radio networks.

ONDA ODS – IT STARTS WITH YOU – EDITION II (2023–2024)

The second edition of the project launched a local-global communication strategy at the national level, with the aim of raising awareness among Spanish citizens about the 2030 Agenda and promoting progress toward the country challenges of the Sustainable Development Strategy, through the active participation of key actors in 11 autonomous communities. The project was carried out in 3 phases:

● The creation and mass distribution of a toolkit of communication strategies and content on the SDGs

Starting from a research and identification phase focused on innovative practices, a national core group made up of professionals from the 4 local media networks participating in the project created a toolkit of communication strategies and content on the SDGs. Entitled ComunicánDonoS, this guide aims to provide communication tools, processes, and methodologies, as well as examples of audio, video, and social media formats with strong potential for promoting topics related to the 2030 Agenda. Translated into 3 languages, more than 2,000 copies were distributed to social organizations and local media outlets across Spain.

● The implementation of 12 local SDG communication strategies developed by multi-actor, multi-level local alliances in 12 municipalities

These campaigns aimed to bring the Spanish Sustainable Development Strategy closer to the local level and provide citizens with key information to help promote behavioral changes needed to achieve SDG targets specific to each municipality. In each municipality, a local alliance was created, made up of representatives from the local government, local media, and civil society and private sector organizations. Together, they carried out a diagnosis to identify the priority SDGs for each context.

They then developed 12 local strategies entitled It Starts with You, designed to support citizens in raising awareness and implementing essential behavioral changes in areas such as consumption, environmental protection, gender equality, and more.

● The development of a national communication strategy around the country challenges of the Spanish Sustainable Development Strategy (EEDS)

This national campaign, disseminated through more than 240 local media outlets, raised awareness among 2.51 million people in 11 regions about the key challenges and priorities identified in the EEDS 2030. It gave a voice to countless local organizations and entities implementing activities, projects, and initiatives aimed at achieving the goals set out in the 2030 Agenda.

ONDA ODS — EDITION I (2021–2022)

The first edition of ONDA ODS was based on a communication strategy built around three main pillars:

● A radio and audiovisual campaign with specific segments in three languages, broadcast both through the project’s network and via the stations associated with the local media networks involved. Its shared goal was to raise awareness about the various ways in which achieving the Sustainable Development Goals can have a cross-cutting impact on our territory.

● The creation of a national network of local media outlets for the implementation of the SDGs. This network aims to strengthen an alliance of more than 240 local media outlets, both public and community-based, so that the issues, challenges, opportunities, and prospects related to the SDGs become widely known among Spanish citizens. This effort was reflected in the organization of two national events on local communication and ecosocial transition, as well as the creation of SONANDO LOCAL, an OTT digital platform for the exchange and dissemination of content produced within the framework of the project.

● The empowerment of citizens and the rural socioeconomic fabric through the implementation of training cycles in communication and the use of radio and audiovisual tools in 12 municipalities. A total of 120 women, young people, and leaders of organizations driving ecological transition processes in rural areas produced audio and video content about the SDGs, which was then broadcast as part of the national network campaign.
