The issues generated by gender inequalities, global warming and the revitalisation of the rural environment are the challenges that inspire this project whose central axis revolves around local communication.

Driven by 5 key players in the Spanish media landscape, the ONDA ODS project (SDG Wave) aims to implement a local communication strategy that raises awareness among citizens and encourages reflection and debate on these challenges, which are absolutely transversal to people who live in this country.

The 1st National Inter-school Radio Contest on the SDGs

During the spring of 2025, the media networks that make up the Onda ODS project have implemented a pioneering initiative: the first national inter-school radio contest on topics related to the 2030 Agenda and the Spanish Sustainable Development Strategy. Through a series of challenges presented in radio and TV programs, Onda ODS has promoted the launch of a methodology that has turned a hundred secondary school students into active communicators of the SDGs.

The Onda ODS Colloquiums, the 2030 Agenda from a Local Perspective

Throughout 2025, the project partners will be implementing a series of 16 interactive radio colloquiums and talk-debates in 16 municipalities on specific local aspects related to the 2030 Agenda. In each locality, several experts as well as local actors will come to share their analyses and debate with the public around key topics for the sustainable development of their immediate surroundings. Through more in-depth interviews and the broadcasting of the colloquiums on more than 150 radio stations, citizens will be made aware of local initiatives that contribute to the achievement of the SDGs.

More than 120 podcasts in 3 languages on transformative local initiatives

Produced and broadcast by the stations participating in the project, Onda ODS offers a weekly series of radio and audiovisual content in multiple formats, focused on how the 2030 Agenda promotes economic cohesion, social justice, and environmental sustainability in our territory. Each week, the Onda ODS campaign makes available to the audiences of EMA-RTV, EMUGA, REMC, RTV Cardedeu – la XARXA radio and audiovisual spaces in three languages, dedicated to analysis, debate, and reflection on the achievement of the SDGs and their impact on citizens’ daily lives.

THE SDGs AND THE 2030 AGENDA

UNA ESTRATEGIA MUNDIAL PARA UN PLANETA MÁS EQUITATIVO

The Sustainable Development Goals are a universal call to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

Consequently, an international agenda has been established, projected until the year 2030, which is made up of 17 goals and 169 targets. This is the 2030 Agenda, a global roadmap to achieve them.

The Spanish Sustainable Development Strategy 2030 constitutes Spain’s commitment to the 2030 Agenda. It prioritizes 8 challenges.

MORE THAN 300 LOCAL RADIO STATIONS AND 2.5 MILLION LISTENERS

The project is being developed in 11 autonomous communities with the participation of more than 240 local, community, and public radio and TV stations, reaching an estimated audience of more than 2.5 million listeners. Through the production and broadcasting of informative programs about the 2030 Agenda, as well as podcasts and audiovisual capsules on gender inequalities and global warming, the Onda ODS project makes the motto “think globally, act locally” a reality.

CREATION OF AN SDG COMMUNICATION TOOLKIT

ComunicánDonoS is a practical guide for the creation of audiovisual content and podcasts related to the Sustainable Development Goals, developed in the second phase of the project. Created by a core group from the 4 project partners, it aims to facilitate the creation of awareness-raising content on topics related to the 2030 Agenda. Published in Spanish, Catalan, and Galician, ComunicánDonoS has been distributed to 500 organizations at the national level, including social organizations and local media outlets.

12 LOCAL COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES "START WITH YOURSELF" ABOUT THE SDGs

Within the framework of the project’s second edition between 2022 and 2023, multi-actor, multi-level alliances were launched in 12 municipalities nationwide for the implementation of local strategies integrating activities aimed at achieving the SDGs prioritized in each locality. Involving actors from different local sectors in the design of media strategies on the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda made it possible to bring the SDGs down to the local level and provide practical information to citizens in order to encourage processes of reflection and, above all, changes in habits towards fairer and more sustainable models.

Furthermore, these local alliances selected different priorities depending on the geographical area of the municipality and local political priorities, and launched media strategies titled “Start with Yourself,” producing audio and video content with the aim of involving citizens in the achievement of the SDGs.

STATEWIDE MEETINGS OF LOCAL MEDIA

STATEWIDE MEETINGS OF LOCAL MEDIA

The project partners have already organized 4 national meetings within the framework of the first two editions of Onda ODS, between 2021 and 2024. Through public debates, internal seminars, and conferences, these events allowed for the exploration of strategies that contribute to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda from the perspective of local communication.

On the other hand, they promoted the exchange among communication professionals of good practices in promotion strategies, political advocacy, and media literacy around the priorities of the 2030 Agenda. The fifth national meeting will be organized in 2025, within the framework of the third phase of the project.

BOOSTING CITIZEN PARTICIPATION BY MEANS OF TRAINING COURSES

To encourage the active participation of the population in the promotion of the objectives of the 2030 Agenda, EMA-RTV, EMUGA, REMC and RTVC will promote during 2022 several training cycles in communication and management of radio and audiovisual tools in 12 rural municipalities aimed at 120 women, young people and members of entities that promote ecological transition processes at the local level.

At the same time, the participants will be in charge of producing a series of radio programmes and videos related to the challenges faced by our territory, which will become part of the contents disseminated within the framework of the global communication strategy generated by the project.
